Former Country Leader, AIG Bermuda
Catherine (Cathy) Duffy retired from her role as AIG’s Country Leader of Bermuda in September 2024, following a distinguished career in the insurance industry. During her tenure, she led AIG’s local operations, overseeing a cross-functional team and advancing the company’s strategic objectives in Bermuda. Widely recognised as the “face of AIG” on the island, Cathy was instrumental in strengthening relationships with customers, brokers, reinsurers, and other industry stakeholders. She also chaired several AIG Bermuda Boards and served as a director for a number of affiliated entities.
A pioneer in Bermuda’s international insurance sector, Cathy was the first Bermudian woman to earn the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. She is also the author of Held Captive – A History of International Insurance in Bermuda, the first comprehensive account of the island’s insurance industry and its global influence.
Beyond her professional achievements, Cathy has made significant contributions to public and community service. She has served as the only female commissioner on the SAGE Commission, as a Bermuda Public Service Commissioner, and in numerous other civic roles over the years.
Cathy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Insurance from Howard University and has completed executive management programmes through Harvard, INSEAD, MIT, and Wharton. She was named a Fellow of the Women’s International Forum and was among 26 women selected for AIG’s 2020 Women’s Executive Leadership Initiative (WELI).
